The VMware client must be installed on your local system before you connect to a virtual machine. Instructions to manually install the VMware Client for Windows XP users can be found here.
Download the appropriate version for your operating system
Windows Client 32 bit: VMware-viewclient-4.6.0-366101.exe
Windows Client 64 bit: VMware-viewclient-x86_64-4.6.0-366101.exe
Click on the link above to download the client.
Save the client to a convenient location.
Run the file you just downloaded and follow the installation prompts.
The following settings are recommended:
Custom Setup: Install View Client and USB Redirection
Default View Connection Server: BingView.binghamton.edu
Check the options for: Create Program Shortcuts
Uncheck Launch VMware View Client after the installation is completed
Click Install to finish the installation.
Note: The BingView Portal does not support the Windows 7 operating system. You must use the VMware client to directly connect to the remote Virtual machine. The procedure for connecting the View portal from off campus is outlined below.
After the VMware view client has been installed you are ready to connect to the View Portal. This procedure is valid only for Windows based system.
If you are connecting from a system located on the campus network you can skip to step 2.
Step 1.
Connect to : http://ssl.binghamton.edu
Login with the appropriate credentials.
If this is the first time logging into this system, install any plug-in and/or software that is presented.
Start the "Network Connect" option from the SSL web page.
If this is the first time running the Network Connect option, install any plug-in and/or software that is presented
Once the Network Connect option has started successfully, there should be a orange colored closed lock located on lower right corner of the task bar. The closed lock indicates that a secure network connection has been established between your system and the campus network. Without this secure connection the Virtual Desktop will not function correctly.
Step 2.
Start the VMware View Client
Set the connection server to: bingview.binghamton.edu and click connect
Click OK on the View Portal informational message.
Login with your Pods or BGM account.
The View VMware View Client lists the various Virtual Machine Workstations that are available for use.
Select the desired Display option.
Available options are:
Select the desired desktop.
The system automatically logs you onto the selected desktop. It authenticates you to the desktop using the credentials used to login to the View Portal.
Your local disc are automatically mapped to the virtual machine. Files should be saved to your mapped drives. Files saved to the virtual machine drives are deleted once your session is terminated.
When finished be sure to Log Off.
